Applegate Marketplace is the leading business to business marketplace in the UK.

Originally established as an electronic directory, the company became limited in 2001 and reformed into an online marketplace in 2013. In March 2016, under the leadership of its new CEO, Stuart Brocklehurst, who became the majority owner that year, it launched its e-procurement tool, Applegate PRO.

Historically, Applegate has specialised in the engineering and manufacturing sectors, enabling its users to source suppliers and products with millions of products and services available from a network of hundreds of thousands of suppliers.

Partnering with Wer Liefert Was, the leading business marketplace in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, enables Applegate’s clients to promote their products and services to professional buyers who use wlw GmbH – together almost double the size of the UK economy.

The company’s headquarters are in Hamburg and employs over 200 members of staff. Founded in 1932 it was the first publisher of printed reference material for commercial buyers. Since 1995 wlw has offered its services online. The principal owner is the investment company Paragon Partners.

In 2015 Applegate formed a partnership with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, the premier global organisation serving procurement professionals across the world.

As a knowledge partner, Applegate shares key insights with CIPS members to help them to fully utilise the capabilities of an online marketplace in conjunction with an eProcurement system.

For suppliers listed on the Applegate supplier network, the partnership provides access to some of the most senior procurement professionals in the country.
